Wiley Students Earn Top Honors at Regional/State Destination Imagination Tournament

A team of problem-solving and creative students from William Wiley Elementary took brought home top prizes from this year’s joint regional/state Destination Imagination competition and where 16 teams from RSD schools represented the district.

Domesticated Dragons, which includes members Mia Briggs, Sidney Horton, Violet Gillette-Fox, Sierra Frank and Charlotte Ashby won first place in the team challenge and instant challenge divisions in the elementary level at the competition, which was at Southridge High School in Kennewick.

Outside of Wiley, RSD teams hailed from Badger Mountain, Lewis & Clark, Marcus Whitman, Orchard, Tapteal and White Bluffs elementary schools as well as Leona Libby Middle School. All teams also are invited to participate in the Global Finals, which will be held in Kansas City, Missouri this year.

Destination Imagination, or DI, is a program that emphasizes critical thinking and creativity. Student teams choose from one of 7 different challenges—from the arts to technical challenges—they want to compete in and spend months creating a solution to the challenge. They also complete instant challenges in the competition, where they have to think on their feet.
